No sooner had the dust settled after the 2006 Ryder Cup held at The K Club, County Kildare in Republic of Ireland, when, for the third time running, European players won the trophy than talk was of the next tournament.
The Ryder Cup is a team tournament involving the top players from both sides of the Atlantic and attracts worldwide interest and huge television audiences.
The Ryder Cup dates back to 1926. Originally it was a contest between U.K. and U.S.A. but then in 1979 it was opened up to include all of Europe and their first class golfers.
The fiercely fought competition, organised by the PGA of America and the PGA of Europe, is held every two years being hosted alternately by U.S.A. or Europe.
For Louisville, the 2008 Ryder Cup will be their largest international sporting event ever.

Despite the problem of water shortages in many places around the globe, golf courses and dedicated golfing resorts continue to be constructed, even in desert areas.
For the successful professional golfer, the rewards can be extremely high with lucrative purses on offer in many major tournaments.
